"Even as a little girl, I have never felt comfortable in the human towns. I feel claustrophobic in houses....threatened under the towering, grinning faces of people. Perhaps that was what pushed me away from them all.
I know I wasn't supposed to be around there. 'They'll snatch you away! You will never escape from them!' That's what they said about the Faeries whenever I ran off to visit the oaks. I would never say it for fear of being accused of 'mouthing off' but truthfully, I wished they would take me away. A world of trees and flowers...no greedy men...no sneering women...no ugliness.
She was my only friend. The graceful woman with hidden wings who taught me all I know about twisting and forging metals.
She taught me everything about creating beauty from a lump of something cold and formless.
Perhaps if she hadn't died she could have done the same with me."
