Chestnut Memory - Leather Mask

Medium: Leather, acrylic and ribbon.
Original: Available

Like the elms destroyed by Dutch Elm disease, the American Chestnut was another tree that was affected by an introduced disease.
The chestnut blight killed nearly all the American Chestnuts in the eastern United States, leaving a magnificent tree that had once
filled forests and towns as nothing more than a memory. The American Chestnut was one of the most widespread trees in the Eastern
U.S., and even today, any Chestnuts that try to take root are killed by this blight.

This is another tribute tree mask, like my Last of the Elms mask. It is hand-carved and shaped from 7-oz leather, and painted
with acrylics. The 'flat mask' portion is metallic bronze.
